Traveler Segments

A Travel Segmentation MemoirUnlike previous lessons focused on various ways of categorizing individual traveler characteristics, motivations, and preferences, this week’s lesson addresses the idea of travel segments, or how travelers can be classified and categorized by their collective, group characteristics. To put these ideas of travel segmentation into practice, in this assignment, you will “segment” your own prior travel experiences according to the various criteria provided in this week’s lesson, book chapter, and lecture materials. You can choose from any of your prior travel experiences to respond to the prompts below.
Think About ThisThis is an individual activity. In total, your answers must be 150-250 words long. The word requirement will be enforced in accordance with the grading rubric. Make sure to number your answers based on the questions, with one trip described in each of questions 2-4.
Question 1: Recall and briefly describe your top 3 most memorable trips of any kind.
Question 2: Then, in light of this week’s chapter and lecture materials, think about how this trip would be segmented by a tourism professional. Be sure to address the following:
Primary motive of each trip (leisure, business, VFR)If business, what was the “business”? How was the travel arranged and by whom? What were the accommodations like? How was food provided (e.g., in hotel, in local restaurants, provided by event, etc.)
If leisure, what leisure activities served as the basis for the trip (name up to three)? How long did you stay in the destination, or destinations? What kind of lodging and food was involved in the trip?
If VFR, who were you visiting? Where did you stay (e.g., a private residence, local hotel, AirBnB, etc.)? How long did you stay?

Where there any secondary motives or other activities combined with the primary motive of the trip?
Into which category from Quick Trip 14.13 of this week’s chapter would each of your trips fall?
Question 3: Replicate the above response for your second trip.
Question 4: Replicate the above response for your third trip.
BONUS Question: This week’s lectures included references to many travel-related films. Beyond those mentioned in class, what is your favorite travel-related film or TV show?
