While I was in middle school and high school I actually had a friend who was transgender. Her name was Amy and she was one of the best people I had ever met in my teenage years. Looking at her you would have had zero idea she was female, she was built and looked male. She began her process while we were juniors in high school but to everyone who knew her she was still just Amy, she was even our high schools first ever transgender prom king. After we graduated her parents paid for her reassignment surgery as a graduation gift and he changed his name to Adam. So as far as a friend, people are people no matter what and should be treated with respect regardless of their gender or anything else. I have 4 children (3 girls and 1 boy) and if they one day told me that they felt like a boy or girl and wanted to start transitioning I would do my best to help them in any way I could and make sure this is what they actually feel. I feel like I would be hesitant at first since it would be somewhat a shock to any parent in general but I would do what I could to help them out along the way.
