Gender and Society
Spring 2023
Activity #3
Instructions: Write a 1 – 2 page, double-spaced (size 12 font), response to the following prompt. You may use quotes, but the bulk of the response should be written in your own words. As always, you should cite required and/or additional readings to support your arguments. When you are finished, upload your reading response in the Assignments tab on CANVAS.
Due: By 11:59 pm, Sunday, April 16th
PROMPT
In this paper you should reflect on the readings and other course materials from Weeks 11 and 12 (work and family) and imagine how gendered processes might impact your post-college experiences. In short, you will need to draw from statistics and theories to consider the following question: How might my gender identity and presentation impact my experiences in the workplace and at home?
➢ Before you write this paper, take a moment to consider your current/future plans for work and family. Do you want to (or do you currently) work full-time, be a stay-at-home parent, or both? Do you imagine yourself getting (or are you currently) married and/or having children? What are your career goals? And so on.
o Note: You do not need to include all (or any) of this in your final paper, but it should be used as a guide as you reflect and write.
➢ In your paper, consider how what we’ve learned about gender, work, and family might enable or constrain your plans.
o In this case, you should assume that the average experience of men, women, and LGBTQ folx in the workplace and at home will play a role in your interactions and outcomes. You might also hypothesize about how you would overcome any constraints that people (with your demographic characteristics) encounter on average.
Already have a family and a career? Alternatively, you might consider on how your current or past experiences in family and at work might have been impacted by gender identities or expectations. Use what we have read and discussed as you reflect.

The Supportive Ethnography of Childhood Development, Cognition, and Learning

I thought my 43 page dissertation was complete (It is attached/uploaded) but my professor asked for a bit more data put into it and I just cannot figure out how to add what he is looking for. If I don’t have the information he wants in the files that I have attached can you just create some data that makes sense for what my conclusion is. Here is his feedback to me when I submitted it. Has to be done with APA format. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

Angel, you’ve done an incredible job on this project! I don’t think I’ve ever received a rough draft as thorough as this! Your writing style is great, and you do a really nice job integrating your sources into a narrative in your literature review. Your findings and conclusions are also solid, but this is where I think you could expand a bit more–you make a lot of statements about the trends you found, but don’t really provide any concrete evidence to support your claims. If possible, go back through here and include some data points (quotes from your notes, percentages or frequencies or tallies, etc.) that illustrate the strength and extent of these trends. Do this, and this will be done! Really excellent work!

I have to re-submit this next week. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your help.

OF YOUR CHOICE Essay

I don’t have a specific topic for this essay, it just has to be a sociological one. The essay must contain a maximum of 1250 words (excluding bibliography and sitography). For references, you must use the APA 7 system for citations, both WITHIN the essay and IN the bibliography. You should support the text with some literature (i.e. books, scientific articles, book chapters…). You should include some DIRECT and INDIRECT quotations in the text and provide a list of references at the end of the text. STRUCTURE: Title, introduction, development and conclusion. The number of sources I selected is approximate.

Assignment instructions:
There are 2 papers required in this class. This assignment is an opportunity to demonstrate your mastery/understanding of the material. There are three opportunities (section 1, 2, and 3) to select from – pick two (your choice). Once you have selected the section/s that interest you, focus on a current event (for example, an issue covered in the New York Times, Washington Post, the Atlantic, etc.).

Next, using the concepts covered in the section you selected, analyze the issue and develop an argument for how the issue can be understood using a sociological framework. You must use a minimum of four concepts – failure to clearly use 4 concepts will result in “0” for the assignment. All of the concepts must be clearly defined (in your own words) and used appropriately.

The papers are due the same week as the section exam (Sunday @ 11:59 pm). There will be a dropbox available for paper submissions. You need to plan ahead for how you are going to write your papers. Thought papers are designed to test your knowledge of the assigned material. Failure to demonstrate knowledge of the material will result in failure.

Length and Format

800-1000 words, double-spaced.

Use 11-point font, Times New Roman with 1-inch margins.

A source is necessary – there must be a foundation for your argument! For the analysis portion of your papers, refer only to sources/concepts we have used in class. You do not need to provide a separate reference list – do not use information that you have found “online”.

For this paper you are going to connect class materials to the article attached. Explain her view of the media’s representation of the working class, and explain what she argues this indicates about middle class attitudes and identities. Do you agree or disagree with her analysis? please examine Stephanie Lawler analysis. make sure there is an argument and examples and evidences to support the argument.

Jane discovered that
John was telling fellow workers that she is a lesbian. Although Jane is open
about her sexual orientation, she thinks it is inappropriate for John to share
personal information about her with co-workers. When Jane approached John and
asked him to stop saying that she is a lesbian because it is professionally
inappropriate, he replied “Why shouldn’t tell people? Everyone knows, and
you’re out anyway.” Felling disappointed and angry, Jane made an appointment to
speak to her field supervisor and described what happened and complained about
John’s behavior. Jane’s field supervisor responded that she was sorry this had
happened, but there was nothing she could do about it because John is the
relative of a very powerful board member and she is afraid that reprimanding
John will cause problems for her. Given the current economic situation, the
field supervisor is afraid that she could lose her job and not able to find
another one. Is the field supervisor’s response ethical? To whom does the
supervisor owe loyalty? How would you respond in Jane’s position? How would you
respond in the field supervisor’s position? Taken from Ethical Decisions for S.
