Film Response: Extreme Measures

If we are either our minds (or souls) or our bodies as the seats of our “real” identities, does either declaration do justice to everything that we are? Are we are or are we not “double” creatures? In what does our identity reside? Just what do I mean when I say “me”?

If you were paralyzed like Hugh Grant’s character in the film, what would you do to regain mobility? Would it be “anything” ?

At the end of the film, Hugh Grant receives a package with all of the medical research enclosed in it. What do you think he does with it once the movie ends? What do you think he should do with it?

After reading this poem it reminds me of racial against African American people. Because they are the ones always trying to fight for their right or freedom. In this poem If We Must Dielines 1-2. If we must die, let it not be like hogs (McKay 1). Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot, (McKay 2)The figurative to be used are Simile words which are like and Personalities with human feelings, thoughts, or attitudes. The way I think interpretation relates to the poem. People do not know how they going to die. But the people do know they going down fighting. The people might be out numerous, up against a wall or building get across or cannot get out. But they fight to the end, not giving up on their enemy.
– “If We Must Die”This poem was written in response to the increase of race riots and hate crimes against African Americans. “If we must die, let it not be like hogs, Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs, Making their mock at our accursed lot.”In the first four lines of this poem, the speaker uses apostrophe. He addresses a group of people who seemed to be living under the threat of certain death. In the first line of the poem ” If we must die, let it not be like hogs” the author uses methaphor. Meaning it is saying that if they must die, they do not want to be treated like hogs.

All postings must be original work. * “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning” by John Donne “Our two souls therefore, which are two, Though I must go, endure not yet”- This is a metaphor/paradox. He has used this device to emphasize that, while their souls are one, they are still two different souls. It signifies that their souls will always be connected, even when they are separated. It also means that they can endure any hardship together. * On the occasion of his diplomatic separation from his wife, Anne, John Donne wrote “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning.” The poem is about what happens when two lovers must part ways, and it explains how spiritual unification renders this particular parting essentially unimportant. The speaker contends that physical distance should not be an issue between him and his lover because genuine love transcends physical distance. The first stanza of “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning” establishes the first half of an analogy that will be expanded upon in the second stanza. The speaker indicates that he will be comparing the opening image to something else by beginning with the word “As.” This strategy keeps the reader alert throughout the description as they wait for the analogy to be completed. The stanza concludes with a colon, indicating the end of the image and the beginning of the argument.

Week 4:Databases vs. Search Engines, so what’s the difference?88 unread replies.88 replies.
This week’s discussion will cover databases and search engines and how to utilize these tools for you academic research. “Not all information is good information”
Watch the video “Google vs Library DatabasesLinks to an external site.” and answer the questions below to learn how to distinguish academic database from search engines, and know when and when not to use Google. You will need to submit your original post (150 words) before you respond to (2) two of your peers. Each peer response should be 50 words or more.
Discussion Questions:
Look up the terms “searching” and “researching” in an online dictionary and provide what the terms mean to you, in your own words.
When should you use Google (or any other search engine), and what information is it useful in providing?
What are the benefits of library databases?
Go to the Grafton library homepage and look at the Databases by Subject Links to an external site.page. Choose one of the “Quick Links” databases in the upper right corner, and search for information about “Children” AND “Climate Change”. You may add another keyword to narrow your search. When you find an article that connects your keywords, provide the citation and why you chose this resource.
Next, using the article you just found, try finding the same article using only Google, not Google Scholar. What barriers did you see, and were you able to access the same article using a search engine? Don’t forget to utilize Boolean operators in Google!
