THEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT:
a) What sorts of resolutions or demands did women make at the Anti-Slavery Convention in 1837? In your own words, write a list of at least 5 resolutions made at the Convention and explain why they were important in 1837.
b) For the document, “The Seneca Falls Convention Issues a ‘Declaration of Sentiments,’ 1848”, the authors provide a long list of evidence to support their thesis that “The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over her.” In your own words, write down at least 5 examples from the document and explain why you think these examples best support their thesis.
Peace in History
Peter Stearns points out the “tension between principle and frequent reality” (p.45) that affects religions that have promoted values of peace and nonviolence as essential tenets of faith.
Describe principles of nonviolence or peace in each of the three (Christianity, Hinduism, and Islamic) religions covered in the material assigned for the course so far and explain how those principles have been limited or compromised by circumstances in ancient and post-classical societies.
Support your essay with direct quotations and sufficient and relevant historical context, including specific details [who, what, where, when], from the material assigned for class session.
Things to keep in mind when constructing your essay
Have a title, introduction, thesis, a body, and a conclusion.
The essay must connect, and flow in chronological order when talking about events in history. The topic requires the principles of nonviolence in each religion to be explained for example the origin and or foundation (consider how does each religion ideas and principles relate to peace). The topic requires how each religion has been limited or compromised by circumstances in ancient and post-classical societies to be explained (consider how have these ideas or principles held up, modified, or changed based on circumstances). Time focus is ancient and post-classical societies.
