The goal of this discussion is to consider what we know about the symbolism embodied in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, how it was designed to reflect the history and goals of the Catholic church, and how these features address the goals of the Counter-Reformation.
Based on the information provided by the reading and class lecture compose an answer to the following prompts. Total length (of both paragraphs) should be 500 words.
In one paragraph, identify and describe two characteristics of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome that were intentionally designed to reflect its history and purpose as the home of the Catholic church. You can include details about the location, design, and decoration of the church (interior and exterior) and piazza that serve these purposes.
In a second paragraph, reflect how these two characteristics work to address the goals of the Counter-Reformation in the Catholic church, namely using art and architecture to “spread the prestige and teachings of the Church.”

RWS305 Brainstorming Exercise

Writing an effective Statement requires a bit of soul-searching and reflection. Before we delve more deeply into them, I want you to brainstorm and generate ideas for what you could include in your statement.
The following exercise asks you six general questions to help you brainstorm. As you brainstorm, it’s fine to start with more general statements and ideas and then hone in on more specific examples to include in your statement. But thinking of specific examples in advance will make writing the actual statement of purpose much easier!
Deliverable
Write down your answers to the following six questions. There are many brainstorming methods you could consider. Some people like making lists while others prefer to just free-write paragraphs. Some would rather draw a mind map or even make voice memos. Just so long as it helps you record the information and get your brain going, any method is fine.
Here are some things to consider in your brainstorming session, with brainstorming questions for each:
1. Your research/professional interests in the field
What interests you most in your field? Consider what you’ve researched/done before, and how closely you want your future interests to hew to what you’ve done in the past.
Are there particular issues, tasks, projects, themes, methods, theories, etc. that interest you?
What problems are you hoping to solve or address through your work/future career?
2. Your research/professional background and qualifications
What major projects have you worked on? For example, Did you write a thesis? Do an amazing internship? Work on a research project? Build an app? Have clinical experience?
If you have work experience, how is it relevant to your program, internship, or job? What competencies and skills did you build there that carry over to your planned research/work?
3. Your major accomplishments
Any major accomplishments not covered in your background/qualifications? Try to tie them back to your ability to succeed in graduate school, internship, and/o your specific professional endeavors.
4. What’s appealing about the specific program/job/internship you’re applying to
What about them made them attractive to you?
How can they help you grow professionally and/or educationally?
How will your work fit there?
5. Why you’re passionate about the field
What made you initially interested?
What goals are you passionate about accomplishing?
What do you find particularly fascinating or intriguing in your field?
6. Weaknesses to address
Are there any weaknesses in your application you need to address? If you have a semester with very low grades or another “hole” in your application, you can address it directly in your statement of purpose.Don’t offer excuses, but it’s fine to provide some kind of explanation: were you dealing with a family emergency or chronic illness? Did you need to work full-time and go to school full-time?
Whatever you write, try to frame it in positive terms, to emphasize your ultimate success in the face of setbacks.

Analysis of Dillard and Burke text.

In “Total Eclipse,” writer Annie Dillard describes the thrilling, beautiful, and terrifying experience of witnessing the rare event known as a total eclipse. How do the autobiographical descriptions of her experiences resonate with the ideas of the sublime as explored in the excerpts from Burke? A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful? In other words, in what ways does “Total Eclipse” evoke the sensations, images, concepts, nature, etc. of the sublime asenvisioned and conveyed in Burke’s text?

Her neighbour would later come and apologise to her and she would forgive her like she always did but for now she rushed to her room and flung herself on her bed as hot tears streamed down her face. She felt stupid for crying but she couldn’t help it. She was an Indian alright, but that was no reason to be mean with her. All her friends, if you can call them that, would always tease her about how her hair was neither totally black or brown or the way her slanted eyes almost disappeared when she laughed. Her skin wasn’t even that dark as they would say, it just had a tinge of yellowish hue to their normal white and pink skins.
She had never teased them about their black hair or their blue eyes.
Once when a girl with red hair had catcalled her she had snapped back by saying she was a redhead and then she had started crying and everyone in her class had called her a racist. She was horrified by that word and had spent the rest of her school day trying to explain how she wasn’t the one who started it but they wouldn’t listen. That day still made shivers run down her spine.
It was a warm Wednesday afternoon and the sun shone brightly overhead as Esha Malhotra made her way past her front lawn to their next door neighbour’s house to continue the group project she was assigned to complete with her friend. Leah was not a friend of Esha really she was just her classmate, Mrs. Turner had assigned them together because they lived near each other, but she liked to think that she was actually close friends with the most famous child from her school.
