GUIDE LINES
The
purpose of this research paper on a disability is to extend your
knowledge of factors that place young children at risk for a
developmental delay or disability. You will select one disability or
condition to research and discuss the implications for a young child
with your selected disability in an EC classroom or EC program. (You may
choose any disability or at-risk condition; it does NOT need to be a
disability category listed in IDEA.) You will cite FOUR peer-review
journal articles. (You may include additional resources if you like
including texts, websites.)
You will write a 6 page paper. Title page, Abstract and Reference pages are additional pages using APA style–all in-paper citations and Reference page will be in APA format.
Papers will address the following subtopics. Label each item “A” through “G” in your paper:
A. Distinguishing characteristics (physical and developmental)
B. Incidence/ Prevalence
C. Diagnosis
D. Etiology (cause of disability)
E. Implications for intervention and inclusion including cultural linguistic diversity–English Learners
F. Teacher’s materials and strategies (one full page narrative description, not a list). This
is what YOU will do in the classroom, not other service providers, for a
child with your selected developmental delay or disability in your EC
program.
G.
A one-full page Reflection/Discussion on how knowledge about this
disability will impact how you guide EC teachers you are
supervising and the administration of your EC program.
To earn maximum points for F and G above you will include the following elements:
Identify
and discuss multiple instructional resources (6 or more) for your
selected child’s disability. This includes specific software products,
curriculum, instructional materials. Provide 3 or more examples of how
you will guide EC teachers in the inclusion of a child with your
selected disability in the classroom. Provide 3 or more examples of the
impact a child with this disability may have in the overall EC program
administration.
