Module 4 Homework 1 – Types of Statistical Studies

DirectionsStep 1: Submit your first draft
Commit a good-faith effort to address each item in the Prompt section below.
Please be sure to number your responses and include “white space” between problem numbers. This improves the readability and flow of your work for your peer reviewer (classmate) and grader (me). We cannot give feedback and grade jumbled work.
Type your responses into the text box. Please do not embed or attach screenshots of your written work. This is an accessibility issue. If you need to write math for this assignment, be sure to use the Canvas math editor (see the Canvas Tutorial below).
Step 2: Complete your assigned peer review
After you submit a good-faith attempt on your first draft, continue to the ANSWER(S) page and review my response. But please do not submit your final draft yet.
Within two days after the due date, return to this assignment and complete your assigned peer review. Here are instructions for submitting a peer review (opens in a new tab).
Here are the criteria for writing high-quality assignment comments.
Step 3: Optional Final Draft
You may use your peer’s instructive comments along with the ANSWER(S) page to resubmit your work any time before I begin grading the problems (typically within 72 hours after the peer reviews are due). However, to earn full credit, you are not required to submit a final draft for assignments with the word “Homework” in the title. But if you do submit a final draft, I will only grade it if you submitted a good-faith effort on your first draft.
Warning – I will only grade your most recent submission. So if you choose to submit a Homework assignment, please do not leave anything out and do not direct me to read an earlier submission. To maximize your score, your most recent submission (at the time I begin grading) must be complete
Progress CheckUse this activity to assess whether you and your peers can: Write a research question that includes the three necessary components of a well-stated research question.
PromptGive an example of a well-stated research question that involves estimating a characteristic of the population of part-time students at your college.
Improve the following research question so that it is a well-stated research question. Research Question: Do students work a lot of hours?

The answers are mostly correct. The writing/work is clear. The explanation/work is reasonable, well-organized, and easy to follow.1.5 ptsPartial CreditOne or more parts of the “Prompt” are not addressed or are incorrect. Or, answers do not demonstrate attainment of the learning objectives in the “Progress Check” section of the assignment. Or, answers are correct, but the writing/work is unclear, incorrect, or difficult to follow.0 ptsNo MarksThe “Prompt” is not addressed or the work is incorrect or missing. Or, the first draft was not a good-faith effort.3 ptsThis criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomePeer Review2 ptsFull CreditYou completed the assigned peer review. The points you assigned in the rubric for the “Addressing the Prompt” criterion are appropriate. You used the “Add a Comment:” field to submit your assignment comments. Your assignment comments relate the score you assigned in the “Addressing the Prompt” criterion of the rubric to how your peer addressed the learning objectives when responding to the “Prompt.” (Note: the learning objectives are listed in the “Progress Check” section of the assignment.) If you awarded full credit for the “Addressing the Prompt” criterion in the rubric, your comments contextually and specifically explain what your peer did to demonstrate attainment of the relevant learning objectives. If you deducted points for the “Addressing the Prompt” criterion, you clearly explained what your peer can do better to demonstrate attainment of the relevant learning objectives.1 ptsPartial CreditYou committed a good-faith effort to provide a high-quality peer review, but necessary instructive comments are missing. Or, you provided appropriate instructive comments but did not complete the rubric.0 ptsNo MarksNo peer review provided or the comments are not instructive. Or, you did not commit a good-faith effort on your first draft.2 ptsTotal Points: 10
