Although Edgar Allan Poe invented the detective story in America, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle made the genre famous with his British detective Sherlock Holmes.

How are the detectives in each story (Holme and Dupin) different? Are their methods of deduction similar or different?
Write an essay comparing the two detectives and making a claim about why Sherlock Holmes became the more famous character.
