1.Assume you are the manager of the department where you currently work. If you are not currently working, use a past situation or a hypothetical situation; be sure to describe it. Select two leadership theories that you believe will be most useful in managing your staff
While working in the hospital as a patient transport manager we have different types of employees that works withing the company. Age, gender, and ethnicity play role in the performance of the employees. The type of theories I feel we should have are trait and behavioral theory. When it comes to down to trait theory concentrates on recognizing different personality characteristics traits and physical characteristics that are connected to productive leadership across a range of conditions (Cherry, 2021). Trait theory appeared as one of the original types of studies into the nature of efficient leadership and its also connected to the great man theory of leadership. The behavioral leadership consist of how workers performs and accepts the qualities can duplicated by other workers (University, 2020). Its often called the style theory, which implies that workers aren’t born into success, but could easily be shaped into one upon their studying behavior.
People must be somewhat reliable across circumstances in their behaviors associated to the trait. For instance, if they are chatty while at home, they sometimes tend to be chatty at work. A good example of behavioral theory is a task orientated leader vs a individual orientated leader, if there’s difficulties with a team, task leader would will look at the development to see if something needs to be corrected with the plan (University, 2020). Both theories show action that any manager must be able of doing at any given condition.
When it comes down to another theory, I feel I would need conflict theory. When dealing with conflict theory it sees social and economic organizations as instruments of the struggle between classes and groups, used to maintain inequity and the dominance of the ruling group (HAYES, 2022). When you have so many different employee and age, ethnicities and gender comes into play you will need to know how to properly handle that situation if it comes into contact.
The best three practice that came from these theories are flexibility, creativity, and assertiveness. Having flexibility is always good to have, flexibility consist of being able to immediately adjust to new consideration as they occur. A worker who is flexible can adjust their plans to navigate or defeat unexpected hurdles. Having creativity in the office increases problem solving. With the capability to think creatively and go above and beyond, workers would start coming up with exclusive and inventive answers to problems they come across. The enthusiasm to resolve problems can start new ways to achieve assignments. Assertiveness is the capability to stand up for what you believe is right at the same time you are remaining calm and confident. When you know your value, the first step action to be being more assertive is cultivating a practical and polite standpoint on your value as an individual.
When it comes down to trait and behavioral theory it helps establish the guidance qualities of managers and team directors. It also helps workers through they day it keeps them motivated and committed to their jobs.

2.The skills and knowledge leaders possess are important, as it helps the organization’s strategic planning and leads to the company’s development. The relationship between leaders and their employees determines the organization’s overall work performance. Leaders are intended to engage and motivate employees. According to (Ryba, n.d.), Strong employee motivation and engagement are critical to the health and success of your organization. Engaged employees are 69 percent more likely to be productive. Organizational effectiveness is directly dependent on the effectiveness and awareness of its leaders. Strategic planning is important in clarifying the direction the organization is headed and how the company will get there. Leaders are in charge of developing strategic plans for the future. Having a great planner and leader will greatly affect any organization’s outcomes.
Leadership theories are the explanations of how and why certain people become leaders. They focus on the traits and behaviors that people can adopt to increase their leadership capabilities (Western Governors University, 2021). Two theories that would be effective when managing a team would be Participative Leadership Theory and Transactional Leadership Theory.
Participative leadership theory is a leadership style that takes input from every employee in the organization. The leader generally asks for ideas and thoughts from every team member before a decision is made or established. In participative leadership theory, the involvement of employees is important because it increases the work performance of the organization and leads toward the growth of the business. Communication and transparency are important for effective participative leadership. The employees must have all the knowledge and information the leaders have to make rational and effective decisions. The participative leadership theory is used to make employees feel engaged and valued. Employees can be more creative in their work through their knowledge and skills. Also, if there are any organizational changes, employees will easily accept and adapt to the changes.
Participative leadership can bring myriad benefits to an organization. A leader who uses this style effectively will be able to involve their entire team in the running of the organization. By crowdsourcing opinions and contributions, decision-making becomes a collective endeavor that taps into the skills, ideas, and expertise of every member (Wilson, n.d.).
Transactional Leadership Theory uses rewards and punishment to direct and motivate employees. This approach emphasizes the importance of performance, structure, supervision, outcomes, and organization. The task and goals for the employees are highly structured, and they are rewarded when they achieve the set goal and are reprimanded when deadlines are missed. This leadership style is effective in motivating employees in becoming productive and efficient members of the team (8 Transactional Leadership Advantages and Disadvantages, 2019).
Understanding how effective leaders make decisions can help any upcoming manager become a more effective leader. Your leadership style can help encourage positive working relationships and assist teams to achieve their goals. Implementing participative leadership and transactional leadership theory can enable a more effective team and leader.
