Prompt:”Your mission, should you choose to accept it is…”
Growing up, I loved hearing this opening line from the TV show Mission Impossible because I knew that an adventure was going to follow that would require the protagonists to use all their intellect and abilities to complete their mission; however, I was always intrigued by the “should you choose to accept it” component. Even though I didn’t fully understand why that part stood out to me then, I now understand that it was the bravery that the protagonists exhibited when they accepted the call to make a positive change that interested me. Not only did they effect change by accepting the call, each challenge that they accepted also changed them.
Think of a time that you took on a challenge. What was the task that you took on? Why did you take it on? Did you have a choice? If you did, what made it compelling enough to pursue it? How did it change you? What challenges did you face? How did completing that task prepare you for other tasks?
Is English 124 one of those challenges you’ve chosen to accept? If so, perhaps you have begun your own Hero’s Journey.
